Winchester Cooperative Nursery School ~ Maureen McWilliams
478 Main Street Winchester, MA 01890 781-729-2003 wcns@winchestercoop.org www.winchestercoop.org HOURS OF OPERATION:
Morning, afternoon, and extended day options for children ages 2.1 to 5 years old. See our website for class schedule at www.winchestercoop.org.
The goal at the Winchester Cooperative Nursery School (WCNS) is to give children a positive first impression of education. Its teachers believe that children learn through play. Daily programs offer activities like painting, singing, climbing, building, story time, snack time and dress-up.
WCNS has been an integral part of the education of Winchester children since it was founded in 1968. It is a parent-run, non-denominational school for children ages 2.1 to 5 years old dedicated to providing each child with a positive and enriching first school experience. Parents actively participate in educational and operational components of the school by parent-helping in the classrooms and
serving on school-wide committees and on the Board of Trustees.
The WCNS curriculum is play-based and child-centered. Children are provided the materials and the space and given the freedom to explore. They acquire knowledge while sharing in the discovery of their physical and social worlds.
WCNS offers toddler, preschool, and Pre-K classes. The program is complemented by a music and movement component, a staff literacy consultant, and an artist-in-residency program spearheaded in 2011. The Winchester Cooperative Nursery School is located in the Unitarian Church of Winchester at 478 Main Street.
